The Chinese Zodiac--Rat

The Rat is the first animal in the Chinese Zodiac. It is literally translated as Rat, but is commonly translated as mouse, or rodent in the west. In traditional Chinese culture, the Rat is welcomed as a protector and bringer of prosperity. During the Rat Chinese New Year, Chinese will put peanuts in the corners of their house to ensure that they will share in the prosperity of the Rat. In Western Culture however, the Rat is considered a symbol of disease, pestilence, and all around bad things.

Years of the Rat:

If you were born on the following dates, you were born during the year of the Rat. Since the Chinese Lunar Calendar varies from the Western Gregorian calendar, the dates of the year differ. If your birthday lands before the listed dates, you were actually born during the year of the Pig.

February 18, 1912 - February 5, 1913
February 5, 1924 - January 24, 1925
January 24, 1936 - February 10, 1937

Attributes of people born during the year of the Rat:

The Rat is the first sign of the Chinese Zodiac. Being so, Rats are natural leaders and pioneers. They are charismatic, practical, and hardworking and possess great leadership skills. People born under the year of the Rat are the most meticulous and highly organized of the twelve Chinese Zodiacs. They are both intelligent and cunning and are often unapologetic promoters of their own agendas. People born under the year of the Rat are very adaptable and their natural charm makes them appealing as a friend. These people are usually extremely selective when choosing a friend however. They often have only a few close friends. The people who are born under the year of the Rat tend to have incredible control over their emotions and may use them to manipulate others. They are often quick tempered and aggressive and will not think twice in getting revenge on those that they feel have hurt them. People born under the year of the Rat need to relax sometimes because they are often obsessed with details and perfection. They are fair in their business dealings and expect the same from others. If they feel they have been deceived they will be deeply offended and can be quite aggressive in exacting revenge.
