On New Year's Eve in every home in China a huge family reunion dinner is held. No matter where people live, they are expected to return home for Chinese New Year, and this dinner. It is a huge feast, where many fantastic dishes are prepared including: chicken, fish, Jiaozi (Chinese dumplings), and many special desserts. The fish is never fully consumed during this dinner, but is partly saved for the next day because the Chinese word for fish sounds the same as the word for abundance and by saving it for the New Year, it is believed that the new year will be filled with abundance.
