New Year Yangge Dance

The Yangge Dance is a very typical rural folk dance that can be seen throughout China and is known by everyone. Although not strictly a Chinese New Year Dance, it is popular enough that it is an important part of the Chinese New Year. The dance was originally a harvest dance and done to ensure a great harvest. There are many different varieties to the Yangge Dance and it can be danced by as few as two or three people, or as many as entire village.
